Tandel's drawings, which he self-deprecatingly describes doodles, vary from airy compositions to network of lines so extraordinarily dense they verge on turning into dark, flat planes. He begins with an attempt to juxtapose organic and geometric forms, but once pen is laid to paper he leaves his hand free to discover what it will, he probes for metaphors which can satisfy inner desire of seeing. They are pensive metaphors. which inhabit a middle-ground between figurative, abstract, symbolic, minimal and decorative. The work is neither formalist nor content-driven, neither removed from actuality nor politically engaged. They just nurture in their given space, it can grow into anything it begin with vague growth and journey towards firm line. These budding forms have no aspiration to be ahead of their instance. He likes to focus on daily objects.
