Muktinath Mondal

Mondal’s paintings are both subjective and objective at once, whilst being three-dimensional and schematic. He uses color with a varied intensity and plays between a dominant and recessive background and foreground, all in order to disorientate and interest the viewer. His role as the protagonist is to tell the unheard stories of his culture, an unhindered inspiration behind all of his works. He establishes the local flavor of his culture by amalgamating his perception of daily practices, mundane lives, religious and spiritual beliefs, various proverbs, unheard stories and folk songs. Theses are the people and practices that have nurtured his childhood, but are on the verge of extinction in this complex and modern society.
